"Dr Simon Sostaric has been a fantastic trainer and physiologist for myself since 2016 when I moved into single seater racing. He has helped my physical progression tremendously in terms of very thorough and precise training programs tailored to my needs. He has also provided muscle activation warm up exercises, scientifically proven heat-combative techniques during race weekends, and a range of tests at the race track to monitor my physical state, in order to allow me to perform at my best. He has been a massive help in my career, and i wouldn’t be where I am today without his help. It is about the 1 percenters, as Simon always says"!
“Simon Sostaric has been a wonderful adviser and analyst of our Sports Science programs for around a decade. Simon was originally involved in reviewing our sports science program in 2006 focusing on our fitness and conditioning program.
In more recent years Simon has been involved in the early establishment of our heat training program and provided a sounding board for Fitness employees to periodise the training program.
We have found Simon to be an honest, respectful and talented consultant and has improved our programs whenever involved”.
“Simon is a cutting edge exercise physiologist with world class credentials. My international distance runners Harry Summers and Ben St Lawrence have been tested by Simon with the results being most helpful in our forward planning. Simon is a fountain of knowledge for endurance athletes in terms of training methodology and race preparation. He is meticulous when working with the coach, to formulate individualised programs preparing for hot, humid race conditions. Nutrition and hydration play a big role in his overall plans. Simon is able to simplify the essential data and procedures for the coach and athlete, clearing the pathway for success.
We were fortunate to have Simon give a presentation on his theories and practices to a captive audience in Sydney. The recreational and elite level athletes and coaches in the audience marvelled at his knowledge and took much away from his teachings. I can’t recommend Simon highly enough as both an exercise physiologist and presenter”.
"I have used Simon Sostaric’s sports science services at various points throughout my 12 year professional cycling career. Simon has provided invaluable advice in all aspects of my racing, training and recovery. Simon’s expertise have been of great benefit, in particular, with my successful 2016 Tour Down Under campaign. I highly recommend Simon’s services".
"Simon Sostaric was my first ever cycling coach, coming on board when I was 18 yrs in 2002. From recollection I was one of his first cycling athletes. I was racing at a club level and had aspirations to achieve bigger things with my cycling. As a team, we selected the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic 2003, including the Australian National Criterium Championship to focus on. Within 7 months I went from a club rider to senior Australian National Criterium champion, and subsequently awarded a scholarship with the Victorian Institute of Sport, & the Australian Institute of Sport. Simon’s dedication to my training goals and his meticulous preparation and planning with my program, allowed me to achieve more than I had ever expected. His broad knowledge and expertise within the sports science realm provided me with the tools to optimise every aspect of myself as an athlete"
Dr Simon Sostaric was able to draw on his experience of working with world class athletes, research and academic studies to tailor a personal program to help me improve my fitness levels for competitive sport. The data doesn't lie. The results have exceeded my expectations.
I have seen Dr Simon at MSAHC over the past two and a half years for advice and guidance on racing Ironman triathlons. In 2015 we conducted some fitness testing and Simon developed my heat training program for racing at the Ironman World Championships in Kona. My fitness definitely benefited from the heat training and I went into the race not being concerned the heat would jeopardise my performance.
Since then I have started racing professionally and consult Simon from time to time to discuss my training program, body composition, testing etc. I really value his insights based on the latest research. Earlier this year he strongly encouraged me to introduce heavy weight training into my training regime - which I have done and am already seeing the benefits. I ran a half marathon PB in August (1.28.31) and my long run average pace has dropped 15 second per km since introducing the weight training.
I appreciate Simon's expertise and careful and VERY detailed analysis of where I am at with training and my sport. Another aspect I enjoy with Simon is his ability to look beyond the numbers and ask me simply 'how I felt?' - this is so important as often the problem/blockage to enhanced performance is not due to the physiology!
Simon has also referred me to a GP who was able to assist me with regulating hormones for maximising performance.
I encourage athletes who are looking to enhance their performance through structured and reliable strategies visit Simon to draw on his expertise.
Simon was extremely helpful and insightful after my VO2 max testing. His knowledge has allowed me to train far more accurately and efficiently towards my running endeavours. His work has ultimately helped to contribute to me being in the running for a berth at the Commonwealth Games. Thankyou Simon
“Check any book or website, and there is very little data on motoGP racing. That's where Simon’s experience and knowledge shines through. With his expertise in heat acclimation, understanding of the athlete’s travelling lifestyle, and open minded yet specific approach to athlete preparation - he is an extremely valuable asset to the BS38 team”.
“I used Simon’s Sports Coaching and Science services after I’d got out of sorts with overtraining and excessive fatigue. Simon’s recovery and monitoring based approach helped me bounce back quickly and gave me a great perspective on how to better manage my program for optimum results”.
“Simon Sostaric provides expert input into the Victoria University Bachelor of Sport Coaching. Simon has a remarkable talent for presenting the lessons learned from his extensive history working with elite athletes to engage and motivate students. Simon is not only a first class practitioner, but he has a genuine love of sharing his knowledge and his unique skill set. The students in the unit Prevention, Management and Recovery from Injury have talked about ‘deep learning’ and appreciation of the interactive approach that Simon takes”.
“AMA Victoria’s work with Dr Simon Sostaric and his team at Melbourne Sports & Allied Health Clinic aims to provide information and support our members and their practice staff on the critical issues affecting their patients; in particular, Metabolic Diseases and Chronic Pain Management. The RACGP QI&CPD Category 1 Approved education delivered by Dr Sostaric was beyond our expectations in terms of excellence in delivery, uptake of learning and feedback from course participants.
Dr Simon Sostaric is an exceptionally engaging speaker who encourages constant interaction from his audience. Feedback from doctors attending Dr Sostaric’s education is compelling, with one doctor commenting: “My wish is for more such professional development regularly”. AMA Victoria greatly appreciates working with Dr Sostaric and looks forward to a continued relationship moving forward”.
As an aspiring race car driver, Dr. Simon Sostaric has improved my athletic ability dramatically and has also become an idol for myself by always setting the right examples. I highly recommend to any aspiring athletes out there.
Simon provided fabulous training support for my husband and me when we needed to prepare for our challenging high altitude trek along the Salkantay Pass to Machu Picchu. Even though we live on the Sunshine Coast, and MSAHC is in Melbourne, Simon managed to coach and encourage us in our training. As a consequence we were at peak fitness and able to complete the trek more easily than trekkers almost half our age!
I had a great experience recently with Dr Simon Sostaric at MSAHC. Simon facilitated a VO2 max test plus a range of related tests, then gave me some very insightful feedback regarding my training program and also, diet. Simon gave me a comprehensive report following these tests, but more importantly, some straightforward and practical advice that I was able to put into practice straightaway. Simon is clearly on top of his game. Hopefully by following his advice, I'll soon be on top of mine! Thanks again Simon.
Simon is one of Australia's leading sport physiologists and is internationally recognised through his work with F1 drivers and other moto sports. He has an excellent understanding through his own participation in endurance sport. Simon has provided excellent training and performance advice to participants in the Blackmores Sydney Marathon (& Running Festival) which I'm the Event Director of. I would recommend Simon and his clinic to anyone who wants to maximise their training, general fitness or high performance outcomes.
