Patient healthcare
Decades of scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports that regular physical activity significantly reduces risks for developing obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, cancers, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and psychological disorders – which in many cases are directly or indirectly related to being overweight or obese.
Fact is 50% of adults and up to 25% of children in Australia are considered overweight or obese. Subsequently there are dire individual and social costs, not to mention an enormous national economic strain of ~$58 billion per annum (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2007-2008).
