Frequently asked questions

Q

What is an exercise physiologist?

A

Exercise physiologists are university qualified professionals specialising in delivery of functional capacity assessments, physical activity, lifestyle and behavioral modification programs. Recipients include healthy individuals, athletes, and those with complex and chronic health conditions. Interventions devised by exercise physiologists are designed to identify limitations and capacities, and facilitate a range of programs to improve performance, and effectively manage health conditions.

Q

Are rebates available for exercise physiology consultations?

A

Many private health insurance companies provide rebates. Please check with your health insurance policy entitlements. Compensable organisations that provide rebates for patients suffering chronic health conditions or injured workers include Medicare; Department of Veteran Affairs and Worksafe. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please check with your family doctor.

Q

I am a professional athlete and live outside Australia, can you assist with my physical preparation and recovery programs?

A

Numerous international athletes and teams engage our services. We are available to travel internationally and provide ongoing correspondence and support by phone and email. We also have an extensive national and international network of health and medical providers to assist with managing your unique circumstances in support of our programs.

Q

I have numerous health problems and find it difficult to find the energy to do anything. The thought of exercise scares me; I don’t know where to start?

A Firstly, make an appointment with your family doctor to assess your health status. At any rate, your doctor would no doubt recommend that you include regular physical activity as part of your health management plan. During your first consultation with an exercise physiologist, your medical history and circumstances will be considered carefully, and an appropriate action plan will be devised; which will include a number of sustainable interventions designed to have you moving more, with the aim of improving your functional capacity and becoming more energetic. Our job is to find solutions to your limitations. Movement is medicine!
