About Us

Melbourne Sports & Allied Health Clinic (MSAHC) was established by internationally acclaimed exercise physiologist Dr Simon Sostaric in 2009, primarily as a specialist exercise physiology facility. MSAHC provides a critical and pivotal role in the delivery of high performance, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs.

Dr Simon Sostaric is recognised for his expertise in professional sport, human physiology research and clinical healthcare. Simon has an extensive understanding of human physiological extremes, having applied his skills and knowledge for over 20 years around the globe. Simon previously served as Director of the Exercise and Sports Performance Unit at Victoria University in Melbourne (1998-2006). His work includes design and implementation of bespoke high performance programs; elite training services; recovery methods; exercise rehabilitation; and cutting edge research, investigating mechanisms of fatigue, muscle damage, inflammation, metabolic & electrolyte disturbances, immune function, heat and hypoxic physiology.

Simon has undertaken many sophisticated research projects in collaboration with internationally acclaimed tertiary and medical institutions. Results of his research has been presented and published internationally. Significant academic contributions include publications in high impact factor journals, including the prestigious Journal of Physiology and Journal of Applied Physiology, as head author and co-author.

In clinical practice, Simon has a special interest in obesity and metabolic disorders; diabetes; cardiovascular disease; fatigue; and skeletal muscle and orthopaedic injury.

Industry interests include injury prevention and physiological demands in physically and environmentally challenging conditions; including but not limited to the mining, manufacturing, services, entertainment and transport industries.

Dr Sostaric is also renowned for his expertise in professional sport, and has been retained for his services in Australia, United Kingdom, Europe, Japan and the USA. He has provided physiological and physical preparation services to athletes in preparation for numerous Olympic Games, and focus sports including; track and field, triathlon, cycling, all football codes, Formula One GP, motoGP, World Superbike, skiing, basketball, tennis and adventure sports. Simon is currently sport science/R&D consultant for 2011 AFL premiers Geelong Cats, and physiologist/physical preparation specialist for Red Bull Racing Formula One GP driver Mark Webber.
